Job Title: Instructional Coach

Department: Instruction

Reports to: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

General Description: 

This position will provide leadership and direction in the improvement of instructional practice and student performance in Greensville County Public Schools.  He or she should have an in-depth knowledge of specific content and instructional practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Model lessons and instructional practices that support differentiated instruction in a variety of settings and provide follow-up support to ensure effective teacher implementation.
  • Provide classroom support and assist classroom teachers with planning daily instructional activities for all students, based on student needs.
  • Target groups of students through small group instruction, co-teaching, partner-teaching, coaching and other strategies on specific areas of weakness.
  • Provide professional development for teachers as needed in the use of the curriculum and ancillary materials for the assigned program.
  • Observe all teachers and provide feedback as an instructional coach.
  • Assist teachers and principal in designing programs to meet the needs of all students.
  • Participate in curriculum development and the development of local assessments as assigned.
  • Review assessment results and participate in the development of improvement plans.
  • Assist teachers with using assessment data to plan instruction and monitor student progress.
  • Provide input regarding appropriate intervention/remediation strategies for students.
  • Assist teachers in the development and implementation of instructional planning, effective classroom strategies and classroom organization, as needed to improve mathematics instruction.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of parent workshops and informational sessions to support content instruction at home.
  • Stay abreast of national and state standards, and current trends and issues of assigned content area and best practice; serve on a variety of state and local committees.
  • Maintain a log of services provided that will be submitted monthly to the principal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrate success with CONTENT instruction.
  2. Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching and curriculum design.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written communication and interact effectively with staff, parents, students and the community.
  4. Demonstrate the responsibility for own professional growth by seeking continuing education and in-service training programs.
  5. Demonstrate professionalism by working cooperatively with other staff members, using support services when needed, ensuring that oral communications are clear, accurate, and grammatically correct, respecting the confidential nature of professional information, submitting reports accurately and punctually and complying with administrative directives, individual school guidelines and school board policy.
  6. Demonstrate self-control in the interaction with the school community; demonstrate good work habits to include punctual and regular attendance and efficient use of time.

Education, Training, and Experience Requirement:

  • Eligibility for Postgraduate Professional License.
  • Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience with demonstrated strength instruction.
  • Specialist Degree of specific content preferred.

Physical Attributes/Demands:

Work requires normal physical attributes required for walking, standing, sitting, operating office equipment, communication equipment, lifting, moving, carrying light equipment, supplies, etc. 

Evaluation: 

Performance will be evaluated by the Principal in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of school personnel.
